Description

Livermore Road/Trail begins from the parking area as a wide dirt road (groomed in winter) before becoming a singletrack trail that eventually connects to the Kancamagus Scenic Byway. It provides access to many Waterville Valley attractions: Greeley Ponds, The Boulder, Big Pines, Kettles, The Scaur, Flume, Norway Rapids, White Cascade, Tripyramids, Scaur Ridge Trail, and Old Skidder Trail.

A half mile from the parking lot, Boulder Path leads right 200 feet to the grand prominence sitting in Slide Brook. It is not advisable to cross the brook to make the connection to Lower Snows XC Trail and eventually to Cascade Path.

0.6 miles from the parking lot, Big Pines Path heads north (left) to four large white pines.

1.8 miles from the parking lot, Norway Rapids Trail diverges right to the rapids on Slide Brook. It is not recommended to cross the brook to Lower Snows XC Trail and on to Cascade Path.

2.2 miles from the parking lot, Livermore Road becomes Livermore Trail. Proceed 300 feet to enjoy White Cascade on the right.

Livermore Trail continues 5.5 miles to the Kancamagus Scenic Byway over wetlands and a number of unbridged streams.

Use the Connecting Trails feature below the trail map to find detailed postings for the other trails that connect to the Livermore Road/Trail.

Trail Tips

Respect Wildlife
Keep your pets under control at all times, to protect both them and wild animals, fragile environments, and the enjoyment of other visitors.

Trailhead Information

To access Waterville Valley's Livermore trailhead on W. Branch Road, take Exit 28 on I-93, and follow NH-49 11.3 miles through Waterville Valley. Turn right on Boulder Path Road. At the library, turn left on W. Branch Road for 0.7 miles to the parking lot on the right. If you cross the bridge you've gone too far.

An alternate approach is to follow NH-49 from I-93 Exit 28 for 10.2 miles and turn left on Tripoli Road. At the "Y" stay right on Tripoli Road and turn right on W. Branch Road over the bridge to the Livermore trailhead. An alternate approach (summer only) is from I-93 Exit 31 in Woodstock. Follow the gravel-surfaced Tripoli Road 9.3 miles. Turn left on W. Branch Road, cross the bridge and then turn left into the parking lot.

Please note: There is a parking fee at Waterville Valley's Livermore trailhead, and in winter no pets are allowed on Livermore Road.

You can also access the Livermore Trail from the Kancamagus Scenic Byway (NH-112). Park at the Lily Pond pull-off, which is 15.9 miles east of Exit 32 on I-93 and 19.1 miles west of Conway. The Livermore Trail is directly across the road from the pond.
