Description

The Greeley Ponds Trail heads north to the Kancamagus Scenic Byway from Livermore Road and follows the Mad River to its headwaters at Greeley Ponds. The trail is generally easy and connects to other hiking trails -- Goodrich Rock, Timber Camp and Osceola Peaks.

From the south, the trail follows the Mad River to its source at Upper Greeley Pond. After 0.9 miles, the Goodrich Rock Trail diverges to the left and winds through the Davis Boulders and up a 20-foot ladder to a lookout. Another 0.8 miles north along the Greeley Ponds trail, the Timber Camp trail diverges left and ascends the south slope of Mt. Osceola to an old logging campsite. (Please note that historic relics are protected by law and should not be removed.) The Greeley Ponds Trail continues north to the ponds and crosses the Mad River once on a bridge and again via a ford that can be difficult at high water. Beyond Upper Greeley Pond, the trail crosses over Mad River Notch and then descends to the Kancamagus Scenic Byway.

Please note that camping and fires are prohibited in the Greeley Ponds Scenic Area, which includes the area around the ponds as well as a buffer along the trail in either direction.
