Description

The Scaur and Waterville Flume loop provides access to a beautiful waterfall, viewpoints from the Scaur, as well as interesting natural features.

From Waterville, the loop begins by following the Livermore Road to the junction with Kettles Path on the left. Kettles Path traverses a hardwood forest and passes three deep "kettle" indentations formed by melted glacial ice, then reaches a short spur trail to The Scaur overlook. Back at the trail, turn right on Irene's Path to the Waterville Flume, a waterfall flanked by high rock walls, popular for summer picnics and swimming.

To make a loop, follow Old Skidder Trail to the Livermore Trail, turn right and then follow Livermore Trail all the way back to the parking lot. The full loop is just over 8.6 miles.

The Flume and The Scaur can also be accessed from the Kancamagus Scenic Byway via the Livermore Trail. The loop in this direction is 13 miles and more strenuous.
