Description

Set on the northwest flank of Moose Mountain and largely surrounded by other conservation land, the 79-acre Britton Forest was given to the Hanover Conservancy by Doug and Katharine Britton of Norwich in 2018. The Britton family had owned the land for nearly three-quarters of a century. In 2020, with a grant to the Conservancy from the Quabbin to Cardigan Partnership, the Upper Valley Trails Alliance’s High School Trail Corps and volunteers from Hypertherm built the Black Bear Loop. Designed as a moderate hiking trail that winds through the forest, the path was laid out with care to avoid sensitive habitat.

Trail Tips

Travel on Durable Surfaces
Stick to established trails. If there's no trail, try to walk on rock, gravel, or snow and spread out so that your group doesn't create a trail.
