Located between Chittenden County's most urban areas, this trail offers great views of the Lower Falls on the Winooski River along with historic mill buildings on the far banks. Several eddying pools are separated by rapids that surround a small island with many places to sit and fish. The trailhead is just a short walk from Winooski's charming downtown area along the popular Riverside Avenue Path. From the small parking lot, use the Riverside Avenue path to walk south and then follow a gravel trail down the bank to enter the park. After descending away from the avenue, you'll find pleasant footpaths with benches to rest on. Once closer to the river, visitors can scramble across large open rocks that form the river's edge, perfect for sunbathing or picnicking. Down river, the Salmon Hole trail merges with the River Walk to Salmon Hole Trail, which follows the riverbanks to Intervale Road and forms the start of the Burlington Wildway Trail. This trail connects to the Intervale Center, Ethan Allen Homestead, and Ethan Allen Park several miles away.
