To get to Scott's Cove trail, take the Newport Bike Path north from the Prouty Beach entrance road. The trail heads into the woods on the left 60 feet from the entrance road and is marked by a small trail sign. It passes by part of the disc golf course and then descends toward the wetlands along an inlet off the lake. The trail follows these wetlands, including a small section with bog bridging, until it emerges onto the north end of the Prouty Beach Campground. Turn sharp left to climb a grassy trail back to the campground. The trail comes out between campsites 14 and 15.
Prouty Beach Campground has 75 campsites and amenities including tennis courts, playground, disc golf course, basketball court, shuffleboard and horseshoe pits. The lower beach building houses boat and bike rentals and access to bathrooms and changing facilities for the waterfront. From downtown Newport, head north on US-5 for 0.4 miles. Continue straight onto Union street. Turn left onto Landing street, go under the railroad bridge and take the first right onto Park Avenue. After 2 blocks, turn left onto Duchess Avenue, then take the first right onto Veterans Avenue. The entrance to Prouty Beach and Campground will be on the left after 0.2 miles. Parking is at the tennis courts near the entrance or at the beach parking. Non-residents of Newport have to pay for beach parking.
