South Branch
From the end of USFS Road 30, the trail bears south (left) onto a gated woods road. It ascends gradually, paralleling the east side of Lake Brook, to cross two tributary brooks on snowmobile bridges before crossing Lake Brook on another snowmobile bridge, at 2.4 miles. The Old Job Trail follow a woods road around Long Hole, and then meets up with the Long Trail at the north end of Griffith Lake, 3.5 miles from USFS Road 30.
North Branch
From the end of USFS Road 30, the trail heads north (right) down the road embankment, and crosses a plateau above Lake Brook before descending to a woods road. At 0.7 miles, there is a spur trail to the right to the Old Job Shelter in an extensive clearing where the village of Griffith once stood. The Old Job Trail continues to the left at the spur, crossing a bridge over Lake Brook. The trail follows the brook downstream through a clearing, passing first a large sawdust pile and then an old jeep road on the right. The trail can be difficult to follow in the late summer when the meadow is overgrown. Continuing west the trail enters the Big Branch Wilderness, and parallels Big Branch to the junction with the Long Trail junction, 1.9 miles from USFS Road 30.
