This section of the Trail Around Middlebury (TAM) first follows an old town road grade, then a wooded trail north through Means Woods, to the paved Peterson Heights road. To continue on the TAM, follow this road north approximately 200 yards to its junction with Washington St. Extension. From this junction, the TAM continues through an open field toward the base of Chipman Hill.

For access to Means Woods, use the Battell/Means Woods parking area, but begin hiking 100 yards east of the parking area on the north side of Seminary Street Extension.
