From the Gile Hill trailhead, a narrow path winds through a dark, cool hemlock swamp. Sphagnum moss carpets the earth on both sides of the trail. In a short time the trail passes through a band of rough glacial boulders. Snow and ice linger here far into spring. After crossing Trout Brook on a wooden bridge, the trail rises to an old road in a dry pine forest. The Indian Ridge Trail runs across private lands conserved through trail and land easements held by the Town of Hanover. Follow the trail southward from its intersection with the Sachem Village Connector Trail to take in views easterly toward the Medical Center and westerly to the Connecticut River and Baker Tower at Dartmouth. The main trail continues through hardwood forest and ends at the City of Lebanon's Boston Lot Lake area trails.
