Description

Started in the early 1970's by Hartland resident Henry Merritt, the Hartland Winter Trails have grown to a 16+ mile network of groomed ski and snowshoe trails that loop through the fields and forests of Hartland. The trails vary in length and difficulty and are groomed by a volunteer when snow conditions allow.

Please visit the Hartland Winter Trails Facebook page for up-to-date trail condition updates.

Other Information

The Hartland cross-country ski and snowshoeing trails are entirely on private property. About 25 landowners are generous enough to let their property be used for winter recreation. It is only with each landowner's continued support that the trails will continue to exist. Good relations with the landowners are essential to the future of the trail system! Please respect the privilege of sharing their land.

Use guidelines:

  • Trails should be used for skiing and snowshoeing only. Walking without snowshoes, fat tire bikes, equestrian, dog teams, snowmobiles and ATVs are not allowed.
  • Snowshoers, please stay to the side of the skate lane and do not walk on groomed tracks
  • Public use of trails is limited to winter only
  • Dogs are allowed on leash only. Please keep dogs out of the groomed track.

Trail Manager

Hartland Winter Trails are on private properties, are created and maintained by volunteers, and open to the community free of charge. Please consider volunteering time or sending a donation to Hartland Winter Trails.

Trail Tips

Dispose of Waste Properly
Pack it in, pack it out. This goes for trash, leftover food, toilet paper, and hygiene products. If you brought it into nature, please bring it out.

Trailhead Information

The primary trailhead for the Hartland Winter Trails is near the Three Corners Fire Station. From the intersection of VT-12 and US-5 in Hartland Three Corners, drive approximately 1 mile west on VT-12. After leaving the village area, you will pass Bischoff Lane on the right. Continue about 0.2 miles and look for the parking lot on the right - across the road from the town highway garage and the fire station.

There is also limited parking available at Cobb Hill Cohousing (8 Linden Road), at 12 Lull Farm Lane and at 172 Mace Hill Road.
