Trails meander throughout the fertile floodplain of the Winooski River, crossing farm fields, traveling through riparian forests, and over bridges that cross small tributaries to the Winooski. Trails are well marked, including the Burlington Wildway Trail which connects west to Ethan Allen Park via the 127 Bike Path and east to McKenzie Park and the Intervale Center. A wide variety of birdlife can be found among the wetlands, regenerative plantings, and riparian forests here. Informational signs can be found describing the indigenous Abenaki people who live here, the history of the Allen family, and the Black Snake Affair. All trails are open for hiking, but some do not allow bicycles.

The open air picnic shelter features a large stone fireplace - perfect for toasting marshmallows at your next event! The shelter has electricity and water and there is ample parking. Nature trails, wetland walks and canoe and fishing access make the picnic shelter an inviting location for events, reunions, and parties. Reservations are required. Winooski Valley Park DistrictFrom northbound Route 127, take the "North Ave Beaches" exit. The road to the Ethan Allen Homestead is directly off the exit ramp on the right. Heading Southbound, take the "North Ave Beaches" exit and turn left at the end of the ramp, following signs for Ethan Allen Homestead.
From North Avenue, head east towards 127 following signs for the Ethan Allen Homestead and 127 North and take a left toward the Homestead before getting on 127.
Park at the museum parking lot at the end of the road or the smaller lot shortly after turning onto the access road.
