Description

Trails meander throughout the fertile floodplain of the Winooski River, crossing farm fields, traveling through riparian forests, and over bridges that cross small tributaries to the Winooski. Trails are well marked, including the Burlington Wildway Trail which connects west to Ethan Allen Park via the 127 Bike Path and east to McKenzie Park and the Intervale Center. A wide variety of birdlife can be found among the wetlands, regenerative plantings, and riparian forests here. Informational signs can be found describing the indigenous Abenaki people who live here, the history of the Allen family, and the Black Snake Affair. All trails are open for hiking, but some do not allow bicycles.

Park highlights include:

  • Restored home of Ethan and Fanny Allen (for paid tours call (802) 865-4556)
  • Several miles of walking and cross-country ski trails
  • Secluded fishing and picnic spots along the Winooski River
