Description

Mount Tom (4,051'): Beginning from Crawford Notch Depot, hikers follow the Avalon Trail for 1.2 miles, then continue straight onto the A-Z Trail as the Avalon Trail diverges left up Mount Field. The A-Z Trail continues to climb 0.8 miles steadily up to the saddle between Tom and Field. At the saddle, follow the Mount Tom Spur Trail 0.8 miles to the summit of Mount Tom.

Mount Field (4,340'): Beginning from Crawford Notch Depot, hikers follow the Avalon Trail for 1.2 miles, then turn left to stay on the Avalon Trail as the A-Z Trail continues straight. The Avalon Trail climb steeply uphill for 1.2 miles, passing over Mount Avalon to the summit of Mount Field above.

Mount Willey (4,285'): Beginning from the Willey House, follow the Kedron Flume Trail 0.9 miles steadily uphill past Kedron Flume to the junction with the Appalachian Trail. Turn right to follow the Appalachian Trail 0.3 miles then turn again for the Willey Range Trail to climb Mount Willey. The trail climbs steeply for 0.9 miles to the summit of Mount Willey.

Willey Range Traverse: A popular 7.3 mile route linking the three Four Thousand Footers of the Willey Range. The traverse is commonly begun from the higher elevation trailhead at Crawford Notch Depot, and finished at the Willey House or Ethan Pond Trailheads by shuttling a car to one of those locations, or alternatively utilizing the AMC Hiker Shuttle.

Trailhead Information

Crawford Notch Depot: From Interstate 95, take Exit 35 for US-3 N, just north of Franconia Notch. Take US-3 10.4 miles to Twin Mountain, then turn right to head East on US-302 towards Crawford Notch. Continue 8.9 miles on US-302 through Crawford Notch, and just beyond the AMC Highland Center, the historic train station Crawford Notch Depot is on the right. Park in front of the train station and the Avalon Trail begins across the tracks.

Willey House Trailhead: From Interstate 95, take Exit 35 for US-3 N, just north of Franconia Notch. Take US-3 10.4 miles to Twin Mountain, then turn right to head east on US-302 towards Crawford Notch. Continue 11.5 miles east on US-302 through Crawford Notch State Park, and park at the historic Willey House. The Kedron Flume Trail begins across the street from the parking area. 

Ethan Pond - Ripley Falls Trailhead: From Interstate 95, take Exit 35 for US-3 N, just north of Franconia Notch. Take US-3 10.4 miles to Twin Mountain, then turn right to head East on US-302 towards Crawford Notch. Continue 12.6 miles on US-302 through Crawford Notch State Park, then turn right onto Wiley House Station Road. Continue 0.1 miles up the road to the Wiley Station Road Parking lot, where the Ethan Pond - Ripley Fall Trailhead is located.
