The loop can begin at a number of locations including parking along Shady Rill Road adjacent to the Rumney School athletic fields or the Mount Hunger trailhead. Loop can be traveled in either direction and includes a 1.2-mile Class 4 section. At least a portion of the Class 4 section may not be plowed and may be skiable in the winter.

Town of MiddlesexRoute 12 north from Montpelier, left turn onto Shady Rill Road. The route begins just past Rumney School at the junction with Story Road and East Bear Swamp Road. Parking at the Hunger Mountain trailhead (approximately 10-12 cars) or on the wide shoulder adjacent to the Rumney School athletic fields (>20 cars).
