The Albert Schweitzer Walking Trail at DHMC was created in 1999-2000 through a grant by the American Schweitzer Fellowship. Volunteers from New Hampshire and Vermont helped design and build the trail.
The trail was created to allow visitors and staff at DHMC an opportunity to be immersed in the natural beauty of New Hampshire’s forest.
The trail consists of three sections:
Holly's Path
This path begins just north of the main entrance road to DHMC at the end of the guardrail. The trail descends from the Loop Road down a grassy incline along a drainage gully. Thirty feet down the slope, it turns right into the woods. Holly’s Path ends at the intersection with Joe’s Path and Albert’s Path.
Albert's Path
Albert's Path begins at the DHMC loop road north of the entrance to Holly's Path. It meets the intersection with Holly's and Joe's Paths after a quarter mile. It then goes down an old road, curving left until it crosses a small stream. It ascends past majestic old pines, along some ledges, and curves gradually left, until it then follows an old woods road until it comes out on the water tower access road (gravel). Turn left onto the gravel road, follow it to the southern DHMC access road and proceed north to the Loop Road to return to your car or the DHMC.
Joes's Path
Joe's Path connects from the intersection with Holly's and Albert's Paths to another trailhead north on the Loop road. It also connects on to the Indian Ridge Trails.

From Route 120, turn on LaHaye Drive toward the Dartmouth Hitchcock Main Entrance Access Road. Continue straight on the Loop Road and look for signs for Trailhead parking on the left.
