The Trail Finder's goal is to help people get out, get active, and explore our beautiful area. Whether you're a resident or a visitor, commuting or recreating, seeking thrills or a quiet moment, we'll help you find a great place to go!
The Trail Finder is a collaborative project led by Vermont non-profit Local Motion with the participation of many private and public entities. Scores of volunteers have ventured out to collect and verify trail data. You'll find their names at the bottom of each trail. The project began development in 2005 and launched publicly in the spring of 2008. Addison County trails were added the following year.
In 2010, three new regions were added to the Trail Finder with the help of non-profit partners in those areas. Read on for information about each of these great organizations that helped make this site possible:
Local Motion
Local Motion is a member-supported non-profit organization forging a culture of active transportation and recreation in northwestern Vermont. Promoting walkable communities, fostering active lifestyles, and improving personal health and the local economy through regional trail development are among this organization's many goals.
Upper Valley Trails Alliance
The Upper Valley Trails Alliance advocates for the use, maintenance and development of trails in the Upper Valley region of Vermont and New Hampshire. Through education, outreach & stewardship, the Trails Alliance promotes active lifestyles through trail use in all seasons; connects people and places through a regional trail network; and leads a coalition of local trail groups and advocates.
Rutland Area Physical Activity Coalition
RAPAC is a coalition of organizations, businesses and individuals committed to promoting a healthy, physically active lifestyle in Rutland County. The Coalition was created to address the health problems (especially obesity, heart disease and diabetes) associated with a sedentary lifestyle in Rutland County. The members of RAPAC believe that physical activity is critical to the health, quality of life, and economic success of our community.
Central Vermont Regional Planning Commission
CVRPC is a regional planning organization working with and for twenty-three municipalities in Central Vermont, including all the towns in Washington County and three towns in Orange County. The planning commission's goal is to assist member municipalities in providing effective local government and to work cooperatively with them to address regional issues. We also work with area non-profits, other regional organizations, State and Federal agencies, and the general public.
